Video FAQs
Common questions about Ours Privacy Video - HIPAA, supported formats, captions, who can see a video, channels, retention, analytics, and limits.
Is Ours Privacy Video HIPAA-compliant?
Video hosting runs on the same infrastructure and controls as the rest of the platform, and Ours Privacy offers a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) for healthcare organizations. That said, video published for a website is public content by design. Work with your compliance team on what belongs in a video, and see the question below about PHI.
Who can see my videos?
Anyone with the link. The player page and the raw file URLs are public, which is how any video that plays on your website has to work. There is no per-viewer access control, password, or expiring link.
What video formats can I upload?
MP4 and WebM. Poster images can be JPEG or PNG, and captions can be VTT or SRT. See Uploading videos.
Why is my video still processing?
Every upload is re-encoded, has still frames captured for its thumbnail, and is transcribed for captions. How long that takes scales with the length and size of the file. The video shows Processing until it is done, and playback and the embed code become available at that point.
Are captions automatic?
Yes, in English. Every upload is transcribed and the captions are attached to the player without any setup. Review them before publishing anything where accuracy matters, since automatic transcription can misrender clinical terms and proper nouns. See Captions and transcripts and Caption vocabulary.
Can I have captions in another language?
Not automatically. Automatic captions are English only and each video carries one caption track. To publish captions in another language, caption the video elsewhere and upload the file, or publish a separate video per language.
Do video views count toward my tracked visitor total?
Playback events are tracked like other events on the page, so a visitor watching a video on your site is a visitor you were already counting. Someone watching a video without your Web SDK on the page is not tracked at all.
Do I need to install anything to get video analytics?
The Ours Privacy Web SDK needs to be on the page hosting the video, which it already is if you use the rest of the platform. Nothing else to install and nothing to enable, and the video plays normally either way. See Video analytics events.
Can I send video engagement to Google Analytics or an ad platform?
Yes. Video playback produces
video_start,video_progress, andvideo_completeevents using the standard GA4 naming, so they can be allowed and mapped to any destination like your other events.
Can I export the raw video analytics data into a BI tool like Looker Studio?
Yes. Video playback is recorded as normal events, so a warehouse destination such as Google BigQuery or Snowflake receives the video events with the rest of your event data on its regular sync, ready to query from Looker Studio, Tableau, or any tool that reads that warehouse. See Business Intelligence & Dashboarding Tools for the connection path per tool, and Video analytics events for the properties each event carries. If you only need the summary time series, Export CSV on the report is quicker.
Why does the report show a video titled "Unknown"?
Events arrived without a title attached, which usually means the video had no title set when its embed code was generated. Set a title on the video and events report under it from then on. See Updating a video.
Can viewers pick a playback quality?
No. Each video is published as a single version rather than a set of quality levels, so there is no quality picker and no resolution switching mid-playback. Choose source footage whose quality suits the connections your audience is on.
Can I change the video file without changing the code on my page?
No. Captions and the thumbnail can be replaced in place, but new footage means uploading a new video and updating the code on your page. This keeps the old video's reporting history intact instead of mixing two videos under one title.
How many videos can I have?
Each account has a video limit. The Videos page shows your count against it. To raise it, contact your account representative.
Can I put several videos on one page as a library?
Yes. Group them into a channel and publish the whole set as one browsable page from a single embed code, instead of placing each video individually. See Video Channels.
What is the difference between Inline and Popup?
Inline places the player directly in the page. Popup opens the same player in a lightbox from a thumbnail, text link, time-on-page delay, or shared URL. Use Inline when the player is part of the page content, or Popup when you want to launch it over the page without reserving space for the full player. See Embedding videos.
Does Popup start playing automatically?
Yes. Thumbnail and Text link triggers request playback with sound because they follow a visitor action. Time on page and URL parameter triggers start muted because they open automatically. Browser, device, and operating-system settings can still block autoplay.
Can visitors use a Popup video without a mouse?
Yes. The Thumbnail button and Text link can be opened from the keyboard. The lightbox closes with its close control, its backdrop, or Escape, and focus returns to the launch control or prior page element after it closes.
Does a channel page need its own consent banner?
No. Opened on its own, a channel page sets no cookies and loads no tracking, so it creates no consent obligation of its own. Embedded in your site, video analytics flow through your existing consent manager exactly as a single Ours video embed does. See Video Channels.
How long are my videos kept?
As long as you keep them. Videos and their generated captions, poster images, and playback files stay in your account until you delete them, and nothing expires on its own. The engagement events a video reports follow your account's data retention policy like any other event.
Can I host video on my own domain?
Yes, with a custom domain configured. Pick it from the domain selector before copying the code, and both the player and the video files load from your hostname.
What happens if I delete a video?
The video and its generated files are removed, so any page still showing it stops playing. Remove it from your pages first. Reporting already recorded for that video stays in place. See Updating a video.
